004: A LARGE MING GILT BRONZE AVALOKITESHVARA YONGLE MARK AND PERIOD A LARGE MING GILT BRONZE AVALOKITESHVARA YONGLE MARK AND PERIOD. Dimensions: 16 1/2 x 12 1/4 x 8 1/2 in. No repair or restoration. In excellent condition. Provenance: Exhibited at The Art Gallery Exhibition, Asian Art from the collection of Robert Edwards, 1965, Catalogue no. 27. Robert Edwards (1883-1979) and his wife Gloria (1886-1960). Thence by descent. Robert arrived in Shanghai in 1910, to work for Jardine, Matheson & Co. He married Gloria Byrne in 1917 and it was Gloria who took a special interest in acquiring Chinese antiques. The couple stayed in China until 1938/39.
