017: A LARGE MING DYNASTY HARDSTONE-INLAID GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF BODHISATTVA

A LARGE MING DYNASTY HARDSTONE-INLAID GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF BODHISATTVA. Dimensions: 16 x 12 1/2 x 8 1/2 in. No repair or restoration. In excellent condition. Provenance: The David Collins(1902-1975) Collection, acquired during Mr. Collins' career in the British Consular Service in China and Eastern Tibet between 1920s and 1930s, and thence by descent in the Collins family. A picture of Collins' residence shows the bronze figure in 1940s. During his stay in Tibet and China, Collins built a significant collection of Tibetan and Chinese art.
