AN INSCRIBED HARDSTONE-INLAID GILT BRONZE VICTORIOUS GODDESS 13TH C. Dimensions: 15 x 14 1/2 x 11 in. No repair or restoration. In excellent condition. Provenance: Exhibited at The Art Gallery Exhibition, Asian Art from the collection of Robert Edwards, 1965, Catalogue no. 29. Robert Edwards (1883-1979) and his wife Gloria (1886-1960). Thence by descent. Robert arrived in Shanghai in 1910, to work for Jardine, Matheson & Co. He married Gloria Byrne in 1917 and it was Gloria who took a special interest in acquiring Chinese antiques.
